Francesco Giannotti of Kutztown was the man who died soon after falling at a worksite in Shillington, Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said.
Emergency crews were dispatched Wednesday at 9:47 a.m. to the first block of Catherine Street after a 911 caller saw Giannotti, 47, injured on the ground from the two-story fall.
Giannotti, who was a contractor, was rehabilitating an old factory building at 18 Catherine St., Stitzel said
Giannotti was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m. by a physician, Stitzel said.
Stitzel said investigators determined Giannotti had been working from a ladder positioned against scaffolding. As Giannotti began to come down the ladder, the feet of the ladder slipped, causing him to fall, Stitzel said. The scaffolding also collapsed.
Stitzel said an autopsy Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest determined Giannotti died of blunt force injuries and the death was ruled accidental.
