(WHTM) — The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of a dried fish product that was sold in several states, including in Pennsylvania grocery stores.
According to the FDA, the company Prime Food Processing, LLC has voluntarily recalled 69 cases of its “Dried Herring Fish” because the product was not adequately eviscerated (also referred to as ‘gutted’).

Officials say the sale of uneviscerated fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Market regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera (also referred to as internal organs) than any other portion of the fish.
Furthermore, the FDA notes that uneviscerated fish have been linked to botulism poisoning.
To date, there have been no reported illnesses or adverse reactions associated with the recalled product.
Specifically, this recall includes the following product:
Item #AF4110 – Dried Herring Fish- Lot Code: 26020. Expiration: 06.12.28
According to the FDA, this product was distributed to Asian grocery stores in AZ, CA, FL, HI, IL, KS, LA, MD, MO, NC, NH, NV, NY, OK, PA, TX, and UT.
Moving forward, consumers who have purchased the recalled product should return it to the place of purchase with the uneaten fish and packaging for a full refund.
