A chance to raise money for programs and research benefiting heart and stroke patients is coming up in Erie.
The annual Erie Heart Ball brings together community members, healthcare professionals, and supporters to advance the mission of the American Heart Association.
The event focuses on increasing cardiac awareness and helping save lives throughout the community while raising funds for research, education, nutrition, and patient support programs.
One local patient being recognized this year is Giovani Newsuan, known as Gio. Born with heart issues, Gio has undergone several open-heart surgeries and other procedures during his 10 years of life.
Gio, who visited the Erie News Now studio in November of last year, has been selected as this year’s “Heart Hero” for the Erie Heart Ball.
He will be among several survivors sharing their stories during the event as the American Heart Association works to raise money for research, nutrition initiatives, and other programs throughout the year.
Returning as Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the event is Erie News Now’s Eva Mastromatteo. Erie News Now is serving as the proud media sponsor of the annual event.
UPMC cardiologist Dr. Paul Kang is serving as chairperson of the 2026 Erie Heart Ball. He says the event is more than a gala.
According to Dr. Kang, the Heart Ball serves as a powerful platform to elevate awareness and secure the critical resources needed to fund groundbreaking research and lifesaving education programs.
The American Heart Association’s annual event continues to play a key role in supporting efforts to prevent heart disease and stroke while promoting heart health across the Erie region.
The event will be held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center. Guests were required to register in advance to attend this event.
