ERIE — Gannon University continues to earn national recognition for being one of the nation’s best universities, according to U.S. News and World Reports’ 2026 Best Colleges.

Gannon, the area’s only nationally ranked university, is ranked 257 out of all nationally ranked universities.

National universities are those that offer a full range of undergraduate majors, in addition to master’s and doctoral programs, and are committed to producing groundbreaking research. Universities are ranked according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

Individual Gannon academic programs also earned top rankings.

• 141st in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs 

Gannon University’s engineering program is among the top in the nation for institutions that have ABET-accredited programs and with the highest engineering degree offered being a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

• 204th in Top Performers on Social Mobility 

U.S. News defines this category as focusing on institutions that are successful at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of economically disadvantaged students who are awarded with Pell Grants and are considered less likely than others to finish college. Gannon sees growth in this category, coming in at 232 last year.

• 410th in Computer Science Programs 

Gannon’s computer science programs were recognized among the top in the nation for institutions that have ABET-accredited programs which awarded at least 20 bachelor’s degrees in computer science in 2020-2021.

• 427th in Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Programs 

Gannon’s nursing program, previously ranked 566, was deemed a top program by U.S. News and was ranked among institutions that have bachelor’s-level accreditation by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and have recently awarded at least 50 BSN degrees.

Additionally, the U.S. News & World Report announced the 2025 Best Graduate Schools, ranking Gannon in the following categories:

• 143-158th in best nursing schools: master’s; 

• 68th for best nursing-anesthesia schools; 

• 133rd for best occupational therapy programs; 

• 198th for best physical therapy programs;

• 75th for best physician assistant programs; and 

• 280th in speech-language pathology
