ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a juvenile dead and two others injured Saturday night in Allentown.

According to the Allentown Police Department, officers responded around 10:01 p.m. to the area of North Jay Street and East North Street following reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found three victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel treated the victims at the scene before transporting all three to area hospitals.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said one of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at 11:31 p.m. in the hospital’s emergency department.

The teen died from gunshot injuries, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, June 8, at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center.

Authorities said the victim has been positively identified, but his name is being withheld to allow the family time to grieve privately.

As investigators work to determine what led to the shooting, some residents say they are increasingly concerned about crime in the neighborhood.

Dave Wylie, who has lived in the area for 25 years, said incidents of violence have become a growing concern for longtime residents. “When’s it going to stop?” Wylie said.

Wylie said he believes concerns about public safety have changed daily life for many people in the neighborhood.

“You don’t want to go out at night now. You can’t even go out during the daytime. It’s just insane,” he said.

While police continue to investigate, Wylie said he fears violence in the community could continue despite increased law enforcement efforts.

“I think you’re going to have more police presence. But yeah, I don’t see it getting any better,” he said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Allentown Police Department, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not released additional information about the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
