In a release Sunday, the water company said a loss of power to a booster pump station caused a loss of positive water pressure to a water storage tank, impacting the Clairton area. Officials said a loss of positive water pressure could potentially allow contamination to enter the distribution system. As a result, the boil water advisory has been issued. The notice applies to roughly “1,500 customer connections in the City of Clairton in PA American Water’s Valley District,” the release said.
