LOWER MERION — A 77-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after being involved in a two-car crash Friday morning in the Penn Valley section of Lower Merion.
According to police, on Friday, July 11, at 9:58 a.m., the 77-year-old driver of a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling northbound on the 400 block of South Woodbine Avenue when the vehicle rear-ended a 2015 Honda Accord.
Following the initial crash, the Tiguan continued north when the driver lost control and overturned after hitting a utility pole.
The driver, and only occupant of the Tiguan, was transported to Lankenau Medical Center by Narberth Ambulance and was listed in critical condition.
The driver and only passenger in the Accord was a 59-year-old male. He suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Landenau Hospital. He has since been released.
Woodbine Avenue was closed between Cleveland Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue for about six and a half hours during the crash investigation. The scene was turned over to utility workers at 4:30 p.m. As of Saturday night, the portion of the roadway remained closed.
The crash is under investigation by the Lower Merion Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
