The Reading Terminal Market is expanding this summer with the opening of its new pop-up outdoor destination.
The Plaza at Reading Terminal Market, presented by Jefferson, opens Tuesday, June 9, and remains open through Aug. 2.
This seasonal destination comes as the City of Brotherly Love prepares for a busy stretch that includes the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game and celebrations marking America’s 250th birthday.
The new plaza transforms 15,000 square feet of the 1100 block of Filbert Street into an outdoor space featuring expanded seating, shopping, entertainment and beverage options.
The grand opening will also coincide with the completion of a $1 million lighting improvement project on Filbert Street.
This extension comes just days after the Reading Terminal Market celebrated the completion of its Public Table Renewal Project, a renovation of more than 5,000 square feet of communal space.
The Reading Terminal Market, established in 1893, is one of America’s largest and oldest public markets.
With more than five million visitors in 2025, officials said the market was one of the most-visited destinations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Now with America’s 250th birthday and the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, officials said visitation is expected to exceed six million guests this year.
