It was one year ago that Erie’s largest employer, Erie Insurance, was hit with a cybersecurity attack that sent the Fortune 500 company into a proactive total network shutdown.
It was a stunning moment that demonstrated that even a company in the risk business could be at risk from malicious cyberattacks.
It appears that a group called “Scattered Spider” was behind the attack. Erie Insurance credited their team and independent cybersecurity specialists with determining that no legally protected data was breached.
The company was fully back online by July 7.
