An anonymous, $75,000 gift to the nonprofit foundation that supports Bethlehem Area schools is proving welcome news as the state budget impasse and the federal government shutdown continue to cast uncertainty on school funding.

The funds will be used to “promote innovate teaching practices, enhance student learning environments, and address critical needs,” the Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District said in a news release.

Ed Broczkowski, president of foundation’s Board of Trustees, said the donation is well-timed.

“In these times of uncertainty for public education funding, this incredibly generous donation will greatly assist us in delivering our mission to support the students and staff of the BASD!” Broczkowski said in the news release.

The donation is one of the largest individual gifts the foundation has received.

“This remarkable act of generosity underscores the power of community and belief in public education,” Justin Amann, executive director of the foundation, said in the news release. “At The Foundation, we aim to be a light — offering hope, inspiration, and opportunity for every student and educator we serve. This gift will help us do exactly that.”
