READING, Pa. – As part of the new year reorganization, Reading City Council voted unanimously Monday night to reappoint Councilwoman Melissa Ventura to a two-year term as vice president of council.
In late November, council voted to appoint Ventura as vice president after the role had not been filled in almost one year.
But that appointment was only effective until Dec. 31.
“I am humbled that I’ve grown a lot since I’ve been on council,” Ventura said. “After four years, I feel more engaged, and this will be another growth in my experience here, so thank you.”
The reorganization work took place at council’s Committee of the Whole meeting, and then the regular meeting agenda was amended to have council vote on the appointment.
Public works director
In other business, council appointed Kyle Zieber as the city’s public works director.
Zieber is a longtime employee of the public works department and was currently serving as the public works division manager and the acting deputy public works director.
Council introduced an ordinance that will be voted upon in two weeks to set the salary of the public works director at $118,000.
Liquor license transfer
Also Monday, council voted to transfer a liquor license from Richmond Township to PM Beverage Inc., located at 1558 N. Ninth St. in the former V&S Sandwich Shop.
