Flag Day ceremony: Abington Memorial Post 7069, VFW, Clarks Summit, will conduct a Flag Day ceremony Sunday at 11 a.m. at the post home, 402 Winola Road. The public is invited.
Fireworks celebration: The Rotary Club of the Abingtons’ 40th annual 4th of July Fireworks Celebration will be held July 3 at Hillside Park, 1188 Winola Road, South Abington Twp. Parking opens at 5 p.m. and is $10/vehicle. There will be a variety of food options for purchase. There will also be balloon sculptures, face painting and two playgrounds available. The show starts at dusk and there is no rain date. Additional donations are appreciated. Bring blankets and folding chairs.

Orchestra concert: The Scranton Brass Orchestra will perform a pops concert Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan-McLean Center at the University of Scranton. Admission is free. The performance is open to the public with doors opening at 6:50 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The program for the concert features compositions, arrangements and transcriptions for brass band/brass orchestra, including pops hits, Disney favorites and music for film. The evening’s fare will include Malcolm Arnold’s “Four Scottish Dances,” Turrin’s “Overture for Brass,” the theme from “Bridge Over the River Kwai” and more. Pierogi sale: St. John’s Cathedral will hold a homemade (deep-fried only) pierogi sale July 3 beginning at 11 a.m. until sold out in the church center, 701 Hill St. Pierogies will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. No preorders.

Garbage/recycling collection: City of Scranton offices and the Department of Public Works will be closed in observance of Juneteenth. Garbage and recycling will be one day behind just for June 19.
Throop
Garbage collection: The Throop Municipal Building and DPW will be closed June 19. Friday’s trash will be collected June 22.
