SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new chapter for future priests in the Diocese of Scranton is in the works. Renovations are underway on the future Saint Pius X Seminary in downtown Scranton.
The former Cathedral Convent building will serve as a home for men beginning their journey toward the priesthood.
The future seminary is part of the diocese’s mission to prepare the next generation of priests by providing a place for prayer, study, and formation.
Pleasant day in store for northeast, central Pennsylvania
“Right now, in northeastern Pennsylvania, there are a lot of wonderful things to be excited about, a lot of new things starting. I know for us, as a diocese, we’re seeing an increase in the number of men who want to become priests. We have 16 studying now. I think kind of broadly it’s a reminder that there are good things happening here,” Saint Pius X Seminary Rector Reverend Alex Roche
Church officials say the seminary is set to open in late August.
