Lancaster County leads Pennsylvania in number of measles cases

AND JUST HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR, MEASLES CASES ARE ALREADY ON TRACK TO BE THE WORST SINCE THAT DISEASE WAS ELIMINATED RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES NEARLY 30 YEARS AGO. SO JUST IN PENNSYLVANIA ALONE, STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS REPORTING TWO MORE MEASLES CASES SINCE FRIDAY. BOTH WERE IN LANCASTER COUNTY, WHICH IS LEADING THE STATE RIGHT NOW IN THE NUMBER OF CONFIRMED CASES. SO FAR, THERE HAS BEEN 62 MEASLES CASES IN PENNSYLVANIA THIS YEAR. NOW NATIONWIDE, A CDC SAYS AS OF THURSDAY, THERE ARE MORE THAN 2000 CASES OF THE VIRUS REPORTED IN THE U.S. YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THERE ON YOUR SCREEN, THERE’S BEEN CASES IN JUST ABOUT EVERY STATE, AND ALSO WASHINGTON, D.C., AS WELL. AND THE CASES THEY SENT FROM 30 OUTBREAKS, THAT WAS RESULTING IN 127 HOSPITALIZATIONS THAT SINCE THE START OF THIS YEAR, THE CDC SAYS 92% OF THE CASES THEY HAPPEN IN UNVACCINATED PEOPLE. This year, measles cases are already on track to be the highest they have ever been since the disease was eliminated in the U.S. nearly 30 years ago. In Pennsylvania alone, the Department of Health is reporting two more measles cases since Friday. Both were in Lancaster County, which is leading the state in the number of confirmed cases so far. There have been 62 measles cases in Pennsylvania this year. Nationwide, the CDC says that there were more than 2,000 cases of the virus reported in the U.S. as of June 4. There have been cases in just about every state in Washington, D.C. The cases stemmed from 30 outbreaks, resulting in at least 127 hospitalizations since the start of 2026. The CDC says 92% of the cases happened in unvaccinated people. In 2025, the total number of cases reached a 30-year high, with more that 2,200 cases reported.
