SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa.- A long-awaited review of a data center project in Lehigh County has been delayed again.
Project Atlas has been pulled from the Thursday night agenda of the South Whitehall Township Planning Commission.
According to township manager Thomas Petrucci, South Whitehall is working to find a larger venue for the high number of attendees expected.
The township will announce the details of the rescheduled meeting when plans are finalized, Petrucci told 69 News.
This marks the second time the planning commission has postponed a scheduled review of the project.
A meeting scheduled for February 12 was also cancelled; that time, the project was removed from the agenda in order for the applicant to address the comments township staff and consultants included in their initial 101-page review.
Since then, the plan, targeting a 410-acre plot of land across from Parkland High School, has changed.
The original plan called for six buildings totaling 5 million square feet; the newest submission shows three data center buildings, one administration building, and one warehouse building, for a total of 1.5 million square feet.
Also, the anticipated permanent workforce was reduced from 440 to 250 employees. The original plan showed 966 parking spaces; the latest proposal has 399.
But the township still has a lot of concerns about the project, as evidenced by its latest, 161-page review.
