Erie County has confirmed a second case of measles, the Department of Health has announced. This follows the June 4 announcement of a measles case, the first in Erie County since 2018.
The resident did not report any travel outside of Erie County.
This individual was at Golisano Children’s Hospital twice and at a health center at 1021 Broadway in Buffalo on June 4.
Officials say that if you were at either place on those two days, you could have been exposed to the measles.
ECDOH says that they are working with the locations to identify potentially exposed people, notify them of their exposure and help them determine their vaccination status and level of risk.
The measles virus lives in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours. Basic symptoms include a fever, cough and watery eyes.
If you have two doses of the MMR vaccine, have previously had measles, or were born before 1957, you are immune to the disease.
