Jasson Dominguez had three hits, including a two-run home run, and Jonathan Ornelas had four doubles, an RBI and a run to lead the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 5-2 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the series opener Tuesday at PNC Field.
Dominguez’s fourth homer of the season gave the RailRiders (32-31) a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
An inning later, Kenedy Corona’s double scored Ornelas, and George Lombard Jr.’s sacrifice fly scored Corona for a 4-0 advantage.
Ornelas tacked on an RBI double in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.
Carter Kieboom’s two-run double in the seventh cut the deficit to 5-2, but the IronPigs (29-35) didn’t get any closer.
Elmer Rodriguez (2-3) earned the victory, allowing three hits, one run and two walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings. Carlos Lagrange came on in relief, allowing three hits, one run and one walk while striking out three.
The series continues Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. with Lehigh Valley’s Brian Keller (0-1 record, 2.00 ERA) slated to start and the RailRiders starter to be determined.
