Brzezinski misgenders Titus in Erie City Council meeting
A heated exchange at an Erie City Council meeting Tuesday evening sparked controversy on social media over the behavior of a council member.
At the end of a council meeting discussing bayfront development, Council President Tyler Titus addressed Councilman Ed Brzezinski with a reminder to limit interruptions.
In response, Brzezinski replied “yes ma’am” to Dr. Titus, who is openly transgender and goes by they/them pronouns.
Since that interaction, Titus has gone to social media condemning the comment.

In a statement, Titus said in part: “My hope is that the public response sends a clear message: hate has no home in our city. Erie is at its best when we choose respect, accountability, and a commitment to the humanity of all people…”
JET24 reached out to councilman Brzezinski about the incident and received no word back.
Titus said he would only consider a censure if there is an intentional disruption of council proceedings or a failure to observe expected decorum.
