These are busy times for multiplatinum pop/rock band Train.
Already with plans to commemorate 2001’s landmark album Drops of Jupiter with a 25th anniversary tour this summer, Pat Monahan and his colleagues will release their 12th studio album, Mad Dog in the Fog, on Aug. 28.
Officially announced this week, the record was previewed with a song called “Pennsylvania Turnpike”:
It’s the second song shared so far from the album, following lead single “The Weekend”:

Train’s roots remain in San Francisco, and the new album reflects that: It’s named after a beloved S.F. bar, and “celebrates the place, community, and spirit that have remained central to Train’s identity over the last three decades,” per press materials.

As for this summer’s tour, Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in The Atmosphere will commemorate the band’s smash-hit 2001 record, Train’s second full-length and still the group’s best-selling album thanks to its inescapable smash-hit single, “Drops of Jupiter.”

Led as always by Monahan, Train also features Hector Maldonado (bass, vocals), Jerry Becker (keyboards, vocals), Butch Walker (guitar, vocals), and Matt Musty (drums, vocals).
Walker, it’s worth pointing out, is the newest official member of Train, having joined up after touring with the group last year. One of the industry’s most respected musicians/producers, Walker has left his mark on a number of A-list musical acts including Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, and more.
He’s also a longtime collaborator with Train, having helped the band on a handful of previous studio records.
