LOWER NAZARETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — We continue to follow a developing story out of Northampton County, where police and emergency crews responded to a tragic scene Thursday afternoon.
The Northampton County District Attorney has confirmed that a toddler was found dead inside a car in Lower Nazareth Township.
Investigators cleared the scene at around 6:30 p.m.. Both the DA and the coroner spent the afternoon outside a local logistics facility, trying to piece together exactly how this tragedy happened.
Just after 4 p.m., emergency crews rushed to the 4000 block of Hanoverville Road for a report of an unresponsive child.
Authorities say a toddler was found dead inside her father’s car, which was parked in a nearby industrial lot.
“This is in the beginning of an investigation,” said District Attorney Stephen Baratta. “I can confirm that the decedent was a female child, approximately 15 months old.”
As crews left the parking lot this afternoon, District Attorney Stephen Baratta described a scene that was difficult to process.
“I actually didn’t look in the car because I really wasn’t interested to. It’s kind of an upsetting picture from what I understand. But allegedly the child had been in the car for some time. As in all day,” said DA Baratta.
The Northampton County coroner confirmed the toddler was found dead in a car seat while the car was in the lot of ID Logistics.
An ID Logistics spokesperson issued a statement expressing heartbreak, saying in part, “No employees or affiliates were involved. Our thoughts are with the family and the community during this difficult time.”
Colonial Regional police, the Northampton County DA’s office and the coroner’s office will continue to lead the investigation.
DA Baratta tells 69 News it will take time to be able to release further details or make statements on any potential charges.
