SOUTH ABINGTON TWP., LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Pennsylvania American Water has issued a boil water advisory for dozens of customers in South Abington Township following a pump failure that caused a loss of pressure in the water distribution system.
According to the utility, the loss of positive water pressure occurred Thursday evening in its Lake Scranton system.
Officials said a loss of water pressure can create conditions that allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow or back siphonage. As a precaution, a boil water advisory has been issued for affected customers while water quality testing is conducted.
The advisory affects customer connections in the following areas:

Customers in the affected area are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food.
Pennsylvania American Water said the advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is safe to consume and the advisory is lifted.
