Scranton police arrested a 19-year-old Virginia man wanted on outstanding murder charges Thursday after officers spotted him having inappropriate contact with a juvenile, according to a press release.

According to the release, officers were on patrol near the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Birch Street when they observed Nagee Sumler with the underage girl.

When officers approached Sumler, he fled. Officers pursued him and ultimately took him into custody in the 800 block of Pittston Avenue, using a Taser.

Sumler was uncooperative and refused to identify himself or to be fingerprinted, police say.

Officers originally charged him with having unlawful contact with a minor and evading arrest as “John Doe,” and he was transported to the Lackawanna County Processing Center, where he continued to be uncooperative.

He was remanded to Lackawanna County Prison without bail.

Later on that day, staff were able to fingerprint him and determined he was wanted for second-degree murder and illegal use of a firearm by the Henrico County Police Division in Virginia.

Officers then added several felony counts to the slate of charges against Sumler, including flight from justice.

He remains in Lackawanna County Prison without bail.

Anyone with information regarding Sumler is asked to contact the Scranton Police Department.
