In an exclusive statement provided to Erie News Now from Senator John Fetterman’s office, it was revealed that federal funding has been secured to support ongoing shoreline protection efforts at Presque Isle State Park.
Officials confirmed that $1.5 million in federal funds has been allocated for Presque Isle’s shore protection project following a bipartisan, bicameral effort led by Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation. The advocacy included U.S. Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick, Congressman Mike Kelly, and several state legislators.
“Following a bipartisan, bicameral letter sent in February by U.S. Senators John Fetterman, Dave McCormick, Congressman Mike Kelly, along with several state legislators, we can exclusively confirm to Erie News Now that $1.5M in federal funds have been secured for the Presque Isle shore protection efforts.”
According to the statement, Senator Fetterman worked directly with Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle over the past week to help ensure the project received funding and could move forward.
The statement continues, “Senator Fetterman is deeply appreciative of Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Adam Telle for personally working with him over the past week to ensure this project is funded and moves forward. He is also grateful for the advocacy of Senator McCormick and Congressman Kelly.”
The statement also expressed appreciation for the support and advocacy of Senator McCormick and Congressman Kelly in securing the funding.
Presque Isle, Pennsylvania’s only seashore and one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations, faces ongoing challenges from erosion and changing lake conditions. Shore protection projects are designed to help preserve the peninsula’s beaches, recreational areas, and environmental resources.
“Presque Isle is an iconic Pennsylvania destination that Senator Fetterman and his family enjoy visiting, and he is hopeful this funding will assist in protecting its shores and continue to drive tourists and generations of Pennsylvanians to visit,” the statement said.
The newly secured funding is expected to support efforts aimed at maintaining and protecting the shoreline, helping to preserve the natural landmark for residents and visitors alike.
