BEND, Ore. — A Bend nonprofit is making sure Bethlehem Inn guests can get to work — one donated, tuned-up bike at a time.
Bicycle Resource of Bend has been a partner of the Bethlehem Inn for several years, donating bikes and tuning them up year after year. This has proven to be an incredible resource to those that use the Bethlehem Inn.
“Transportation in this community, it can be a real challenge whether it’s making the bus or paying for the bus fare or the affordability of a vehicle. Many folks just can’t afford the convenient transportation options. And bikes become a very necessary way to get to work,” Bethlehem Inn development director Jon Baker said.
Not only does Bicycle Resource of Bend donate bikes, it also teaches people how to fix them up.
“We take in donated bikes. We fix them up. We have volunteers who come with skills and some people without skills. And we take them through the ABCs of, fixing your bike.” Bicycle Resource of Bend board director Joseph Katroscik said.
Bicycle Resource of Bend works with non-profits across Central and Eastern Oregon.
