Flag retirement ceremony: Boy Scout Troop 34, in partnership with the Northeast Detachment (#304) of the Marine Corps League, annual flag retirement ceremony, Saturday, 11 a.m., Marine Corps League Museum, 1340 Alder St., Scranton. The public is welcome.
Child/babysitting workshop: Johnson College will host a child and babysitting safety workshop June 29 from 4-6 p.m. at its Scranton campus. Registration is required, and interested participants can sign up online by visiting johnson.edu/workshops. The interactive workshop is designed for teenagers and young adults who are interested in starting a babysitting business or who have caregiving responsibilities for younger family members. The program equips participants with the essential skills needed to babysit safely and successfully. The curriculum covers fundamental business setup, strategies for working effectively with parents and children, and vital safety, caregiving and first aid instructions. To engage young learners, the program uses a modern, magazine-format CABS guide and vlogger-style educational videos. The cost is $50/person. The session is part of the college’s WAVE (Workforce Advancement & Value-Added Education) workshop series.
North Pocono
Fireworks extravaganza: North Pocono Minisink Lions Club’s 34th Fireworks Extravaganza will be July 2, with a rain date of July 6, at North Pocono football stadium. Follow the Church Street handicap parking signs to the rear of the NP Intermediate School. The main parking lot from Church Street will be open for regular parking. Food and refreshments will be available from the boosters club food stand. Entertainment will be provided by the Fabulous 45’s starting at 7 p.m. The North Pocono Minisink Lions will be collecting donations to support their vision, hearing and scholarship programs.
