Thousands took to the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal last week to take part in what the Airport Authority called a “stress test,” putting the new terminal to the test with a final trial run before its grand opening. On Oct. 25 at 9 a.m., participants checked in to receive their assigned airline and destination, with some taking their luggage through TSA and others getting their bags checked in at ticketing. In Saturday’s test run, all 13 airlines were present at their ticketing counters, and all 11 new TSA lanes were in use. “You get into the actual ticketing area, and all of the nice new kiosks and stuff, it was great, everything’s really wide open,” participant Aaron Englehart-Shepherd said. “Open and airy and bright, and colorful. It really represents Pittsburgh well,” participant Troy Englehart-Shepherd said about the new details inside the terminal. Data from Saturday’s test run was collected and will be used to address whatever corrections need to be made before the grand opening. After that phase, the airport authority is expected to announce the official grand opening.Download the WTAE app to stay connected with breaking news.
