The family of 12-year-old Xavier Taylor, who remains on a ventilator at the hospital after getting hit in the head with a baseball. threw out the first pitch at a Little League game in Camden County on Saturday.
Taylor’s father and brother participated in the ceremonial first pitch at Audubon Majors Field in Camden County. They also wore t-shirts that said “Shade Strong for Xavier” in support of their loved one.
“It’s just amazing, the love and support, the thoughts and prayers we’re getting,” Greg Taylor, Xavier’s father said. “Our faith has been steadfast in just knowing that our son will walk and be able to play baseball again.”
According to Maple Shade police, Taylor was struck in the head by a baseball on Tuesday, May 26, while warming up at Fellowship Columbia Bank Field with the Maple Shade Youth Baseball Association.
Detectives said he collapsed on the field and was airlifted to Cooper Hospital, where he remains on a ventilator for breathing support as of Saturday, June 13.
Many community members have rallied in support of Xavier’s recovery, with the Ben Franklin Bridge and Philadelphia skyline having shined blue to show their support.
