SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — More than $1.6 million was raised for nonprofit organizations across Northeastern Pennsylvania during this year’s NEPA Gives campaign, organizers announced.

The 24-hour online fundraising event, held from June 4 to June 5, generated support for more than 400 nonprofit organizations throughout the region.

According to the Scranton Area Community Foundation, more than 7,800 donors contributed during the seventh annual event, making it the largest day of charitable giving in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

“NEPA Gives continues to demonstrate what is possible when a community comes together around a shared commitment to making a difference,” said Laura Ducceschi, president and CEO of the Scranton Area Community Foundation. “Together, we are helping to build a stronger, more vibrant Northeastern Pennsylvania.”

Organizers said nearly $300,000 in bonus funds, matching gifts and incentive prizes helped participating nonprofits maximize donations.

NEPA Gives is coordinated by the Scranton Area Community Foundation in partnership with The Luzerne Foundation, Wayne County Community Foundation, Greater Pike Community Foundation, Carbon County Community Foundation, Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers, Community Foundation of Monroe County and the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation.

Support for the event came from sponsors, businesses, media organizations and community partners throughout the region.

A launch party was held June 4 at the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s headquarters in the Century Club of Scranton, while participating nonprofits hosted additional events and activities across Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Since its launch in 2020, NEPA Gives has raised more than $8.3 million for local nonprofit organizations. Organizers said this year’s fundraising total represents nearly a 25% increase over last year’s event.
