Erie VA Medical Center hosts third annual Juneteenth celebration
Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, and on Monday, Erie VA Medical Center hosted their third annual Juneteenth celebration.
According to organizers, this event is more than just a celebration; it’s a day to commemorate June 19, 1865, the day that African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally told that they were free.
Global War on Terrorism Memorial to be built at Veterans Memorial Park
In honor of that date, the Erie VA Medical Center invited veterans, family and friends to enjoy food, educational information and guest speakers.
“We’re growing increasingly, getting more dynamic speakers as we progress. We’re only getting bigger and better as we move forward,” said Maurice Clarke, the Minority Veterans’ Program coordinator.
Clarke said that by hosting events that are culturally relevant, they are able to build a stronger community of veterans of all backgrounds
