This weekend has so many family events, from Juneteenth festivities to other celebrations and ways to spend time together as a family. There’s a special event at the Meadowcroft Rock Shelter, plus Monster Jam and more family fun.

Thursday, June 18- Monday, June 22: WPA Juneteenth Celebration
Pittsburgh’s WPA Juneteenth Celebration will be happening June 18-22 with live entertainment, educational programming and the Grand Jubilee Parade. It’s a chance to take part in one of the region’s biggest cultural celebrations. Your family can learn about the history and meaning of Juneteenth, while enjoying food, music and vendors. Friday, June 19-Sunday, June 21: Spookley’s Summer Celebration at Idlewild Park and Soak Zone
Join Spookley the Square Pumpkin for hands-on planting activities, engaging story times and upbeat dance parties. Activities are included with general admission to Idlewild. Bring your bathing suits to celebrate Halloween in June!
Saturday, June 20: Story Saturday at the Carnegie Museum of Art, 11 a.m.
This week, the story time will feature “Papá’s Magical Water-Jug Clock.” Little Jesús is excited to spend a Saturday with his landscaper dad. He loves Papá’s cool truck and all the tools he gets to use. Papá even puts him in charge of the magical water jug — which is also a clock! Settle in for a reading followed by a hands-on activity. This story time is best for ages 12 and younger. Registration is free with museum admission.

Saturday, June 20: 2026 Monster Jam at Acrisure Stadium, 12:30 p.m.
This weekend, Acrisure is a mud pit. Watch 12,000-pound trucks stand on two wheels and fly through the air. See fan favorites like Grave Digger, El Toro Loco and Sparkle Smash. The Pit Party opens at 12:30 p.m. Tickets start at $35.
Saturday, June 20: Atatl Competition at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
One of man’s earliest mechanical inventions, the atlatl (pronounced “AT-lat-ull”) is a spear-throwing device used by prehistoric hunters long before the invention of the bow and arrow. Visitors can try their hand at aiming at an oversized bullseye target. Plus, don’t miss the chance to see expert throwers from the World Atlatl Association demonstrate their impressive skills. Activities included in general admission.

Saturday, June 20: Opening of the “Time-Traveling Caterpillar Scavenger Hunt” at The Frick Pittsburgh
Opening this weekend and running through Oct. 20, this scavenger hunt is a great way to introduce kids to The Frick. You can travel through history and art with Gustave the Caterpillar on a fun scavenger hunt in honor of the French Moderns exhibit. Grab a scavenger hunt sheet at the Grable Visitor Center. Find them all and claim a prize. This event is free.
Sunday, June 21: Father’s Day Celebration at Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The zoo celebrates the holiday with free admission for all fathers accompanied by their kids. There’s also a host of fun activities throughout the zoo to help families celebrate the holiday. Activities are included with zoo admission for family members.

Sunday, June 21: Make Music Day at The Frick Pittsburgh, 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Has your family ever celebrated the summer solstice? This is the perfect chance to do so for the first time! This special day at The Frick is designed to help with music exploration, showcase local talent and inspire others to play music. The global celebration of music is held annually on the summer solstice, with more than 5,000 live, events. This event is free.
Sunday, June 21: Make Music Pittsburgh Sensory-Friendly Concert at the Schenley Plaza Tent, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Celebrate Make Music Pittsburgh with a sensory-friendly, interactive concert designed for families. Performers from Azure Family Concerts, a program of Autism Pittsburgh, will lead a Pittsburgh-themed musical scavenger hunt and invite attendees to join in creative music-making activities. This event celebrates the idea that music can be found everywhere, especially when kids and families use their imaginations. Find. more info on the free concert right here.
Sunday, June 21: Car Cruise at Hartwood Acres, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Enjoy a walk down memory lane with an array of antique or unique cars. Car cruises include music, food trucks and radio personality Mike Frazer keeping the good times rolling. This is the first of three car cruses this season hosted by Allegheny County Parks. See the complete schedule here. These events are all free and open to the general public.
