Volunteers turn out for ‘Big Cheese’ event in Berks | Reading Area

SPRING TWP., Pa. – About 500 volunteers are making sure kids don’t go hungry in Berks County.

The volunteers turned out for the United Way of Berks County’s tenth annual “Big Cheese” event.

They packed about 250,000 macaroni and cheese meals on the campus of Penn State Berks in Spring Township.

The meals will be distributed by Helping Harvest Food Bank to school children through the “Weekender Program” and given to food pantries in the Reading School District.
