The Pittsburgh Steelers have a need at wide receiver and the Las Vegas Raiders have one who could solve that problem.
That receiver is none other than Jakobi Meyers, who figures to be available at the trade deadline considering the circumstances.
Meyers is in the final year of his $33 million contract and didn’t get the extension he was looking for during the offseason. That left him disgruntled and led to a trade request and Meyers has not rescinded the request, he told reporters recently.
College Sports Network’s Rob Gullo is connecting the dots and predicting a trade between the Raiders and Steelers that sends Meyers to Pittsburgh for a 2026 fifth-round pick.
“At 2-5, the Las Vegas Raiders’ playoff chances are slim,” Gullo writes. “They could look to rebuild its roster next season, and they can start by dishing wide receiver Jakobi Meyers for some value.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers need help at wide receiver and could add a receiver that’s on the trade market to help out quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the offense.”
Meyers would be exactly what the Steelers are looking for in a No. 2 wide receiver.
Meyers is s a four-time 800-yard wideout who has also tallied a 1,000-yard season. Meyers could really thrive with the Steelers, as Aaron Rodgers would be the best quarterback the veteran has played with since he caught passes from that Tom Brady guy in 2019.
While that’s all well and good, the Steelers’ interest in Meyers will be dependent upon price. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Steelers have indeed put in a call to the Raiders for Meyers, but the asking price is “high.”
“The Raiders have fielded calls from the Steelers and Bills on WR Jakobi Meyers, but Las Vegas has set a high price. Pittsburgh is looking at other wide receiver options, too,” Russini wrote.
If the Raiders don’t move off that high asking price, no team is going to want to acquire Meyers. That said, it’s very conceivable Las Vegas’ demands will come down if they’re truly interested in sending Meyers packing.
Gullo’s suggestion of a fifth-round pick would make this trade a no-brainer for the Steelers, but we’d settle on general manager Omar Khan giving up a fourth, and even a third if it’s included in a pick swap.
