Pittsburgh CitiParks is hosting multiple events to celebrate Juneteenth and African American heritage across the city. The festivities began on June 15 and continue through June 27.During that time, you’ll be able to enjoy movies with Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park, see special performances at farmers markets, enjoy a free night at Schenley Park’s Roller Rink and cap off the week of Juneteenth with WAMO Day. The city of Pittsburgh will also help unveil a marker for George B. Vashon. The marker will be unveiled on June 26 at 1 p.m. at the corner of Third Avenue and Market Streets, across from PPG Plaza. Vashon, who grew up in Pittsburgh, was the first Black graduate of Oberlin College and the first Black lawyer admitted to the New York Bar. He had been denied admission to the Pennsylvania Bar because of his race. He was posthumously admitted in 2010.
