City Councilwoman Vanessa Campos has been fined $250 for violating the city’s ethics code by using official city resources to support her political campaign, according to a final order issued by the Reading Board of Ethics.
In a decision issued May 5 and distributed Wednesday, the board accepted the recommendation of its investigating officer and concluded that Campos violated the city’s Code of Ethics by using the city seal and city business cards in support of her campaign.
The board also found that she used her official city Facebook page to host and support her political campaign.
Campos was not immediately available for comment.
The order states that the board’s investigating officer issued a report on the findings March 11. The board further noted that no response to the report was received and that Campos did not request a hearing.
As a result of the violation, the ethics board imposed the $250 administrative fine.
The order was signed by ethics board Chair Angella Singletary.
The city’s ethics code generally prohibits the use of city resources and official authority for political purposes.
The board’s decision brings the ethics complaint to a close unless further action or an appeal is pursued.
