Downtown Bradford is preparing to host McKean County’s largest America250 celebration as the community comes together to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary with a grand parade and daylong festivities.
The McKean County Grand Celebration Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on June 20, along Main Street in downtown Bradford. The event is expected to be one of the region’s signature America250 celebrations, drawing thousands of spectators.
A highlight of the parade will be a special appearance by the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, which is traveling from Washington, D.C., to participate in the celebration. The renowned unit performs in Revolutionary War-era uniforms and is known for preserving the musical traditions of America’s founding period.
The parade will feature more than 70 entries representing over 100 participating units, including veterans, first responders, businesses, community organizations, and marching bands.
Beyond the parade, nearly every storefront in Bradford’s downtown business district is expected to take part in the celebration. Patriotic displays, commemorative banners, and historical tributes will transform Main Street into a showcase of local and national history.
Organizers say the event is designed not only to celebrate America’s 250th birthday but also to highlight McKean County’s unique contributions to the nation’s story.
Among those contributions are the American Refining Group, home to the longest continuously operating refinery in North America, and Zippo Manufacturing Company, whose iconic Windproof Lighter is recognized around the world.
