The Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) used the energy and excitement of the 24th Annual Spring Fest as the backdrop for a milestone moment — announcing the winners of the first-ever 19128 Corridor Awards, a community-driven recognition program made possible through a capacity building grant from the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations (PACDC) and partnering with Cleaver K Media.
The Corridor Awards were determined through a month long social media voting program, giving the Roxborough community a direct voice in honoring the local businesses and organizations that make 19128 the neighborhood it is.
19128 Heart and Soul Award — Café Roma Bakery
The Heart and Soul Award went to Café Rome Bakery, a beloved fixture of the Roxborough community.
“The Heart and Soul Award exists because some businesses don’t just serve a neighborhood, they become it,” said RDC Executive Director Jax Cusack in presenting the award.

19128 Beacon Award — Roxborough Home for Women
The Beacon Award honored the Roxborough Home for Women for their decades of dedicated service and compassionate care.
“Behind every strong community is a network of people who show up simply because it needs to be done,” said Cusack. “The Roxborough Home for Women is that steady, guiding light for our neighborhood.”
Executive Director Tom Wilcox accepted the award and shared that the establishment has been operational and serving the needs of our community for 139 years.
19128 Doodle and Dream Award — Sugarmoon Bakery and Pretzel Theater Company
In a celebration of local entrepreneurship and creativity, the Doodle and Dream Award was presented to not one but two winners: Sugar Moon Bakery and Pretzel Theater Company.
“America was built by dreamers and so is Roxborough,” said Cusack. “Today we recognize two bold visionaries who started with a spark of an idea and turned it into something real.”
Pretzel Theater company Board President, Galadriel Sevener along with some youth members of the theater troop accepted the award and announced their next show, Seussical for this fall. Sugarmoon was busy crafting delicious treats for us, so their award was accepted on behalf of Sugarmoon Bakery by RDC Board Secretary Annie Murphy.
The inaugural Corridor Awards mark a new tradition for the RDC and the 19128 community; one that celebrates the businesses and organizations that give Roxborough its character, creativity, and heart.
