Crestwood freshman Isla Centak won a high school title, and Mid Valley’s Olivia Thomas had two more top finishes to highlight Day 3 at the New Balance National Championship track and field meet.

On Saturday morning, Centak, the District 2 Class 3A champion, launched the javelin 119 feet, 8 inches to win the freshman division and claim a gold medal at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.

Thomas won a bronze medal in the freshman division triple jump and finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.

In the triple jump, the PIAA Class 2A champion, Thomas, had a distance of 39-8.5 on her sixth and final attempt. Jaliah Porter from Lynchburg, Virginia, won the gold with a distance of 41-5. Miami Elite’s Ana Echevarria was second at 40-1.5.

Earlier in the day, Thomas ran a time of 14.89 seconds to finish ninth, one spot short of the final. Mylan Shay of Charlotte, North Carolina, had the fastest qualifying time of 13.95.

Those performances added to the bronze medal she captured in the freshman division long jump on Friday night. She leaped 19-6.5 on the fifth of her six jumps to finish third. Kaitlyn Boakye-Yiadom of Westford Track Club in Massachusetts won the national title in the freshman division with a mark of 20-2.5.

Centak took the lead on her first throw of the competition with a distance of 115-0. She increased to 116-7 on her second and 118-0 on her third. Her best throw came on the fifth of six throws in the series.

Lakeland’s Raine Kearney placed ninth in the event. She had a personal-best mark of 105-4 on the second throw and had a 105-0 on her third.

Abington Heights’ Justin Lezinski finished 11th in the middle school shot put. He had a personal-best mark of 47-2.5 on his second throw of the competition. Leesport, Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Miller won with a meet record distance of 62-3.

Wallenpaupack’s Isabella Maslowska finished 70th in the freshman 800 in 2:22.16. Delaware Elite’s Brooklyn Brown won the gold in 2:11.62.

On Sunday, Wallenpaupack’s Aiden Janowicz races in the championship division 800 at 1:47 p.m.

At the adidas championship meet, Abington Heights’ Kiana Seid will compete in the national elite division high jump at 9 a.m.
