Public meeting for U.S. 1 project
PennDOT invites the public to attend a virtual public meeting to learn about the proposed project to replace the bridge carrying U.S. 1 (State Road) over Darby Creek in Springfield and Upper Darby townships.
The meeting will be held June 4 at 7 p.m.
Pre-registration is not required, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the meeting.

The U.S. 1 (State Road) over Darby Creek Bridge Replacement Project will include the replacement of the structure over Darby Creek. The existing two-span steel bridge will be replaced with a 105 foot, 11 inch, single-span prestressed concrete bulb-tee beam bridge.
The proposed structure will provide two southbound travel lanes, a southbound left turn lane, two northbound travel lanes, as well as shoulders and sidewalks on both sides. There will be minimal roadway work, which includes pavement reconstruction adjacent to the bridge, milling and overlay of the existing pavement covering approximately 1,200 linear feet, new storm sewers adjacent to the bridge, and replacement of sidewalk and guiderail.
The project documents will be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. Route 420 work (Wanamaker Avenue)
May 26 through May 29: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a lane closure northbound between Interstate 95 and Fourth Avenue for movement of construction equipment.
Into summer 2027: One southbound lane of the Route 420 bridge over the Darby Creek to be closed 24/7 as a four-year project to refurbish and replace that span continues.
Route 291 (Industrial Highway)
The project to replace the twin bridges that carry the highway over Conrail tracks in Tinicum Township continues with the following work:
May 26 through May 28: 7 p.m. to 6 the following morning, westbound Route 291 (Industrial Highway) will be closed and detoured weeknights between east of the Bartram Avenue/Scott Way intersection and Stevens Drive.
May 29 through June 2: 7 p.m. to 6 the following morning, flagging will be in place weeknights in both directions on Route 291 (Industrial Highway) between east of the Bartram Avenue/Scott Way intersection and Stevens Drive.
Ongoing work
Springfield Road: Through May 26, 7 p.m. to 6 the following morning, a lane closure with flagging between Britton Road and Highland Road in Springfield Township, high friction surface treatment.
Lenni Road: Through May 27, 7 p.m. to 6 the following morning, a lane closure with flagging Sunday through Thursday between Lungren Road and New Road in Middletown and Aston townships, high friction surface treatment.
Westbound U.S. 322 (Commodore Barry Bridge): ramp onto northbound Interstate 95 through May 29 midnight to 6 a.m., a weekday lane closure, concrete repair.
Creek Road: Through July 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekday lane closure between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Upper Bank Drive for sidewalk and curb installation.
Cheyney Road: Through Nov. 4, closed and detoured 24/7 between Glen Mills Road and Creek Road, Thornbury Township, bridge replacement.
Interstate 476
Through June 5: 8 p.m. to 5 the following morning, weeknight lane closures on sections of northbound and southbound between the Interstate 76 and Interstate 95 interchanges for milling, paving, bridge repair and guiderail replacement.
May 29-30: 10 p.m. to 9 the following morning, the ramps from northbound I-476 and eastbound I-76 to Matsonford Road will be closed and detoured, barrier removal and line striping.
Near Delaware County
U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike): through July 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekday lane closures in both directions between Greenwood Road and the Kennett Oxford Bypass, road construction.
PECO work
Route 252 (Providence Road): through June 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed and detoured weekdays between Third Street/Meetinghouse Lane and Cherry Street, Media, utility construction.
Earlington Road: through Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, closed and detoured between Mill Road and Wynne Avenue, utility construction
Aqua Pa. work
State Road: through July 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed and detoured weekdays between Lansdowne Avenue and Hilltop Road, Upper Darby Township, utility construction.
Sellers Avenue bridge
Through summer 2027: the intersection of Ridley and Ward avenues will be closed and detoured 24/7 for reconstruction. During the closure, Ridley Avenue and Ward Avenue motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.
Conchester Highway project
Construction is underway on a $63.4 million contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX Railroad and improve a 1-mile section of the Conchester, including the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange in Upper Chichester Township.
Early construction activities in 2026 will focus on extensive work to relocate or replace numerous underground and aerial utility lines, water and sewer mains, fiber optic lines, and related communications facilities within the work area. No Section CSX travel restrictions are planned at this time.
In mid-2026, Stage 1 construction is expected to begin on foundations for the new bridge and improvements to Bethel Road. Roadway and bridge demolition beginning in spring 2027 will impact the westbound side U.S. 322 and the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks. Stage 1 work is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
