EASTON, Pa. – After an hours-long search on the Lehigh River, a missing man was found Sunday night by rescue crews, but he wasn’t moving and the coroner was called by police on the scene.
69 News reporter Kevin Zipay spoke with Easton councilmember Frank Pintabone at the scene, who says to stay out of the river, and if you have to go in, to always wear a life jacket.
Pintabone says he’s tired on seeing tragedies in this river.
“Unfortunately, there was another drowning,” Pintabone said. “So this is really sad, especially coming off last week’s incident.”
Emergency crews were dispatched at 4:41 p.m. for a reported drowning in the Lehigh River near the 100 block of Larry Holmes Drive.
After nearly an hour of searching, crews pulled the person from the water at 5:39 p.m..
The person was then brought to shore and placed on a stretcher.
At this point, emergency crews have not released information about what happened.
“Firefighters told me that if he had a vest on, they probably would have saved them,” Pintabone said.
Just one week ago, a 45-year-old man was fishing while standing in the Delaware River before he was swept away by the current.
He was later found dead according to the coroner’s office.
Pintabone is asking everyone to stay out of the river, and if you need to go in, be prepared.
“If you have to go in or can’t stay away, wear a vest, be safe,” he said.
