The Daniel Boone Homestead in Birdsboro, Berks County, is allowing residents of the Philadelphia region to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
The daylong Colonial 250th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 27, from noon to 8 p.m. This program will feature living history demonstrations and tours related to colonial and Revolutionary War life.
According to a Berks Weekly report, guests will have the chance to meet Gen. George Washington, explore a military encampment, and experience immersive colonial demonstrations, including horse-drawn wagon rides and tours of historic buildings such as the Boone House and Bertolet Log House.
In addition, experiences include a Revolutionary War medical hospital display, hands-on 18th-century activities for all ages, and an exhibit of a 4,500-pound cannon, on loan from the Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve and French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust.
During the event, visitors can tour the Boone House; watch open-hearth cooking; observe artisans such as leatherworkers, gunsmiths, and blacksmiths; and explore Indigenous displays and take part in military muster activities with wooden training weapons.
Children can try their hand at quill pen writing, participate in colonial toys and games, and enjoy military muster activities with wooden training weapons.
Entertainment includes the Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps, a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, and performances by Haycreek Valley Goldband on the lawn.
