SCRANTON — Fidelity Bank has mostly completed its $26 million transformation of the iconic Scranton Electric Building at 507 Linden St. into the bank’s corporate headquarters, as well as a related major upgrade of a nearby parking lot between the 300 blocks of North Washington Avenue and Dix Court.

Bank employees have started relocating to the new headquarters, Fidelity Bank President and CEO Dan Santaniello said Monday.

“We are moving people in” to the new headquarters at the Scranton Electric Building, he said. “The parking lot is pretty well done.”

About 30 of 170 employees have moved into the Scranton Electric Building so far, Santaniello said. He expects relocation of the rest of the employees should be completed by mid-July.

With renovations of the Scranton Electric Building previously underway for some time, the bank earlier this year started improving its parking facilities to better accommodate its influx of employees downtown.

As part of the renovation project and move, Fidelity Bank in October bought the former Mattes & Mattes attorneys’ building at 324 N. Washington Ave. to raze it to make way for parking there for bank employees relocating to the Scranton Electric Building.

Demolition of the Mattes & Mattes building began in March and was followed by removal of debris there. Once the demolition debris was gone, the reconstruction of the parking lot and its interfaces with the 300 blocks of North Washington Avenue and Dix Court took place.

The Fidelity parking lot, which is accessed via Dix Court, sits between a building at 312 N. Washington Ave. and Abe’s Deli at 326 N. Washington Ave. Fidelity acquired the lot a few years ago when it purchased the Scranton Electric Building. The bank also owns a parking area behind Abe’s Deli.

Meanwhile, under the relocation of employees, Fidelity has closed its bank branch at 334-336 N. Washington Ave. This branch was between Abe’s Deli and the Scranton Municipal Building, also called City Hall, at 340 N. Washington Ave.

The city of Scranton’s $1.88 million purchase of the former bank branch as an annex to City Hall remains pending, with a closing expected to occur in July, city Business Administrator Eileen Cipriani said.

SCRANTON — Fidelity Bank has demolished the former Mattes & Mattes attorneys’ building at 324 N. Washington Ave. downtown to make way for a bank parking lot there. Wrecking crews in recent days razed the structure, exposing the former basement and foundation and leaving piles of rubble for removal, as shown here on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Fidelity Bank is renovating the iconic Scranton Electric Building at 507 Linden St. into a headquarters, completion of which is expected soon. As part of the Scranton Electric Building renovation project and move, Fidelity bought the Mattes & Mattes building at 324 N. Washington Ave. to raze it to make way for parking there for bank employees relocating to the Scranton Electric Building. Fidelity already owned the parking lot off North Washington Avenue between the former Mattes building and the building at 312 N. Washington Ave., as well as the parking area behind Abe’s Deli at 326 N. Washington Ave. Fidelity also owns the parking area behind the Scranton Electric Building. Those parking lots are accessed via Dix Court. (JIM LOCKWOOD / STAFF PHOTO)
