READING, Pa.- With excitement swirling and the first Reading FIFA fan zone event less than two weeks away, organizers say they’re making sure they’re stocked up on staff.
Experience Reading & Berks County put a call out on social media for volunteers.
“What the volunteers would be doing is really helping our booth, right inside the arena,” says Heather Zimmerman, President at Experience Reading & Berks County. “We’re going to be there handing out area information, dining guides, visitors guides and some swag.”
It’ll be a chance to be right in the mix of all the activity.
“The fan zone is actually inside the arena,” says Zimmerman, “That’s where all the games will be televised. We’re going to have some matches inside and we have lots of cool soccer activations, [and] a DJ inside the arena.”
So far, around 5,000 people have already registered over the four days the local fan zone events are taking place, July 3, 4, 18 and 19.
Outside of what’s been renamed the ‘Reading Arena’ by FIFA, there will be plenty to do as well.
“It’s going to be a cool street festival, lots of music, vendors, food, there’s a beer garden outside the DoubleTree, lots of kids’ activities,” says Zimmerman.
Registration is free and you can do that and just about everything else connected to the events including book hotels and signing up to volunteer on the website.
