The Community Blood Bank is launching a new initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between local donors and the lifesaving impact of their donations.
Starting today, June 23, donors will begin receiving email updates showing which local hospital received the blood products collected from their donation. The goal is to provide greater transparency and help donors see firsthand how their contributions are used across the region.
As the sole supplier of blood products to area hospitals, the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York say the program is designed to highlight just how locally impactful each donation can be.
“Blood donation is a unique way to give back to the community because donors rarely get to see the outcome of their gift,” said Megan Solensky with Community Blood Bank. “This initiative helps close that gap by showing donors that their blood stayed local and reached patients in our community who needed it.”
Officials say many donors find added motivation when they understand the direct path their donation takes, reinforcing the importance of regular participation.
Community Blood Bank hopes the new feature will encourage both returning and first-time donors to continue giving and to better understand how a single appointment can help save lives close to home.
