A Pennsylvania court has denied Kimberly Maurer’s appeal for relief after her conviction in the 2020 death of her 12-year-old stepson, Maxwell Schollenberger. Maurer was convicted of locking Schollenberger in a room and starving him in their Annville Township home. His death was ruled to be the result of blunt force head trauma. Maurer argued that her defense counsel was ineffective during her 2022 trial. However, the state Superior Court disagreed, saying the evidence supported her conviction. Maurer was sentenced to life in prison. Scott Schollenberger, the boy’s father and Maurer’s husband, is also serving a life sentence.
