SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Stroudsburg man is facing numerous drug and traffic-related charges after Scranton police say he fled from officers during an attempted traffic stop before crashing his vehicle in North Scranton.

According to the Scranton Police Department, patrol officers were conducting proactive patrols in North Scranton during the early morning hours of June 21 in response to recent vehicle break-ins when they attempted to stop a vehicle near Oak Street for alleged traffic violations.

Police said the driver failed to stop and fled the area. The vehicle was later found disabled on Ferdinand Street after striking fixed property.

Investigators identified the driver as 52-year-old Toy Garrett of Stroudsburg. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Following the investigation, Garrett was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and opium, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, obstructing the administration of law, flight to avoid apprehension, fleeing or attempting to elude police, accidents involving damage to property, driving without lights to avoid identification or arrest, reckless driving and duties at a stop sign.

Police have not released details regarding the quantities of narcotics allegedly recovered.

Garrett is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Lackawanna County later this month.
