GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Georgetown County deputies said a man wanted out of Florence County remains at large after an overnight search near Pringle Ferry Landing.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said 53-year-old Charles Murphy, of Scranton, ran from a traffic stop on Highway 701 near Walmart on Tuesday when deputies tried to take him into custody.

Deputies said Murphy and Krystal Johnson broke away after a scuffle and led officers on a high-speed chase down Highway 701.
The chase ended at Pringle Ferry Landing, where deputies said the two abandoned their Mercedes and jumped into the water.
Johnson, who was also wanted on a burglary warrant out of Florence County, was quickly taken into custody.

Deputies said Murphy made it back to shore and escaped capture after an extensive search that continued into the early morning hours.
The sheriff’s office said there is little reason to believe Murphy is still in the area, but increased patrols are continuing around Pringle Ferry Landing.
People in the area are encouraged to take standard safety precautions and report any suspicious activity.
Murphy should be considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him should call 911.
