Abington Heights graduate Anna Pucilowski and Elk Lake graduate Cody Adams, a pair of All-Region distance runners, are the recipients of the eighth Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship that honors outstanding District 2 student-athletes in cross country and track and field.
Each athlete was awarded a $500 scholarship in recognition of their athletic achievements, academic success and commitment to the sport.
The scholarship was established in memory of Vince Wojnar, a local running figure and co-founder of the Wyoming Valley Striders 51 years ago. A dedicated teacher, coach and advocate for distance running, Wojnar died in 2018. His family and friends created the scholarship to carry forward his legacy by supporting student-athletes who exemplify his values of excellence, perseverance and determination.
In the fall, Pucilowski was the District 2 Class 3A cross country champion and continued her success at the District 2 Class 3A Track and Field Championships, where she won the 3,200-meter run, placed second in the 1600 and the 3,200 relay and finished third in the 800. She is attending James Madison University, where she plans to major in kinesiology while continuing her running career in cross country and track.
During the cross country season, Adams was the runner-up at the 2025 District 2 Class 1A Championships and helped lead the team to the PIAA Class 1A championship by finishing fourth. In the spring, he finished second in the 1,600, the 3,200 and as part of the 3,200 relay, and was part of the third-place 1,600 relay team. He won an eighth-place medal in the 1,600 and finished ninth in the 3,200 at the PIAA Class 2A Track and Field Championships. He is attending Misericordia University, will major in exercise science and continue his athletic career in cross country and track.
Both recipients were recently honored by the Wojnar family and presented with commemorative plaques.
The Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to one male and one female college-bound student-athlete from District 2 who demonstrate Vince Wojnar’s commitment to both athletic and academic success. The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains administers the scholarship.
