Memorial Day services were held May 25 in Olyphant at the American Legion Raymond Henry Post 327 and the Freedom Fighter Statue Veterans Memorial Park.
An invocation was given by the Rev. Jack Munley, pastor of Rescue and Restore Church. Larry Boyarksy, officer of the American Legion, officiated the services, and Olyphant Mayor Jonathan Sedlak gave a speech. Guest speaker was retired Sgt. Maj. Claudette Williams, president and CEO of the Women Veterans Museum in Mount Pocono. John Turko Sr. of Olyphant was honored with a certificate recognizing his 70-plus years of membership in the American Legion. Music and taps were provided by Brass Storm.
The Memorial Day Program and Free Concert, performed by Brass Storm, continued at the Freedom Fighter Veterans Memorial Park. Kim Atkinson officiated. Guest speaker was SP4 Shamus Gower McGuigan, U.S. Army, retired. After the Brass Storm concert, lunch was served at the American Legion Hall.
