On September 29th, the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued a Drought Watch for Erie County, encouraging but not requiring residents to voluntarily reduce their water use, and to follow guidance from their local water supply.

As the regional water supplier in Erie County, Erie Water Works wants to assure our customers that the drought watch does not impact our drinking water system. Erie’s water comes directly from Lake Erie — one of the world’s largest sources of fresh water — and our treatment and distribution systems continue to operate as normal and with an abundant supply available.

“At this time, Erie Water Works customers do not need to conserve water beyond normal responsible use,” said Craig Palmer, CEO of Erie Water Works. “We’re fortunate to have an abundant, high-quality water source and an infrastructure system designed to deliver reliable service regardless of regional drought conditions.”
