READING, Pa. – Now that we’re past Halloween, many people are already thinking about Christmas.
In Reading, people came out to help make the holidays a little brighter for others in the 19th Annual Eastern PA Toy Run for Toys for Tots.
Santa always does a great job at checking his list twice and making sure kids get what they hope for but, he needs a little extra from time to time, and that’s where Toys for Tots comes in.
“I highly encourage everyone to help out. There’s a lot of needy kids out there. We need all the help we can get,” said George Aupperlee, who’s been playing Santa for Toys for Tots since the 1994.
With Christmas still weeks away Toys for Tots is starting now with the help of Classic Harley-Davidson in Reading.
“This is the kick off for collecting toys for Toys for Tots,” said Matthew Jackson, Director of Events and Marketing for Classic Harley-Davidson.
The kick off started at Classic Harley-Davidson and riders of all sorts got a police escort down to FirstEnergy Stadium. Jackson said, “We had the Jeep club, the Mustang club, the classic cars, but obviously, our motorcycles.”
Tim Farrell took part in the ride and said, “Any day you can get out and ride your motorcycle is a great day, and this is especially great because there’s a lot of us out here riding together for a good cause.”
Participants were encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy. “We will take all the toys we can get, but we are targeting ages 0 through 5 and 8 through 14.”
Classic Harley-Davidson will be collecting toys throughout the holiday season and you can head to ToysforTots.com to find more drop box locations near you.
